The column of Morondava
Endemic to western Madagascar, Grandidier's Baobab raises a silvery-grey cylindrical trunk up to thirty metres, crowned by an almost flat top.
It forms the famous Avenue of the Baobabs near Morondava; its water-swollen wood carries it through long dry seasons, yet the species is now endangered.
